Summaries and Short Extracts from 44 Reports of the Halifax Convention (2024)

We are excited to announce the publication of summary reports from the Halifax Convention, which took place in May 2024 at Dalhousie University.

The Halifax Convention, a pivotal event organized around four key topics—Changing Personal Views on Quality, Notable Outputs and Emerging Convergences, Action Goals for a Roadmap to Quality in the Built Environment, and Public Debates and National Strategies— brought together 143 participants—including 55 scholars and professors, 25 citizen groups, 11 city professionals, and 52 students—across 10 dedicated rooms to explore these critical issues. The outcome is a collection of 40 detailed reports, complemented by four plenary reports, resulting in a comprehensive set of 44 summaries that encapsulate the breadth and depth of the discussions.

Students from across Canada meticulously reviewed the recordings and crafted these summaries prior to revisions and formatting by the editors, Jean-Pierre Chupin (Scientific Director of the SSHRC Partnership on Quality), Maria P. Farfan (Postdoctoral Fellow), and Morteza Hazbei (Postdoctoral Fellow), into a coherent and insightful document.

We will soon disseminate the 1,000 pages of verbatim as all participants’ precious contributions have been carefully recorded and transcribed with the help of our fantastic students across Canada.
