Members of the TMU team have been focusing on Sherbourne Common, an award-winning project along the Toronto Waterfront, mapping it through annotated observations.
Researchers collected data and represented the site and its surroundings using information from the City of Toronto (like property plans and aerial photos), as well as online sources and observations during field trips. Then, inspired by the works of Larissa Fassler, Ryan Ma, a graduate assistant supervised by Leila M. Farah, recorded and mapped his observations during a site visit on a Monday morning in late October. The annotations refer to the public space and its context. In addition, they document users’ activities and their trajectories. Such annotated maps help visualize snapshots of lived experiences.
