CAHP WORKROOM: Climate Action and Adaptive Reuse

Carleton University has teamed up with one of our research partners, the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP), to host a workroom on climate action and adaptive reuse as a part of the National Trust’s 50th Anniversary Conference (October 26-28, 2023) in Ottawa. This full day workshop will begin with a site visit to the Slayte Building, a recently completed office-to-residential conversion project, to frame our discussions in the realities of practice.
This will be followed by a Pro Action Café focused on the unique approach that heritage conservation professionals can bring to adaptive re-use and contribute to climate action on both embodied and operational carbon. The ‘Pro Action Café’ is a collaborative approach to hosting productive conversations about relevant questions and challenges posed by attendees. These conversations link and build on each other as every participant moves between café tables to cross-pollinate ideas and offer each other new insights into the questions or issues that are most important in their heritage projects, work, and community.
Participants will include a variety of students and professionals, including architects, engineers, planners, policy-makers, and developers, as we look to share views across disciplines for an enlightening, solutions-oriented discussion.
