Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility – Vancouver

2024

“I particularly remember visiting Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility and how seeing people with different types of disabilities were able to use the space seamlessly without having to have specific accommodations. For example, they had curved corridor corners to provide clear sightlines for people approaching who have hearing disabilities, all the features in the building provide both visual and auditory feedback so that people with hearing and vision disabilities can interact navigate through the space.

The corridors are wider so they can accommodate people using mobility devices and deaf people can use sign language to communicate while walking along the corridor. The building also provides a variety of seating options and adjustable workstations which offers choice for everyone based on their needs.” (Booklet Positive Lived Experiences of Quality in the Built Environment 2024, p.53)
