RTSA and Maison de l’autisme Survey on the Housing Needs of Adults with Autism in Quebec: Join UdeM Presentation

The team of the research site of the University of Montreal (Material innovation in spaces for people with special needs) is pleased to relay the event below:

La Maison de l’autisme is hosting a presentation on Thursday, February 16 on the housing needs of adults with autism. The event is free and will be in hybrid mode (simultaneously in-person and on Zoom).

We are pleased to invite you to the presentation of the results of our survey on the housing needs of adults with autism in Quebec.

We would like to bring together people with autism and their families, as well as actors from the community, philanthropic, research and health care sectors, to present these results and our video vignettes project.

The Project:

In December 2020, the Réseau pour Transformer les Soins en Autisme (RTSA) and Maison de l’autisme hosted a Issue Table entitled Toward a Better Quality of Life for the Adult Autism Community: Housing Needs and Services. Following this event, the Maison de l’autisme joined forces with researchers Baudouin Forgeot d’Arc (MD, PhD) and Isabelle Courcy (PhD) to create a community-research partnership.

The project born from this alliance aimed to document the needs, expectations and preferences of people with autism in Quebec with respect to housing.

During 2022, the survey was shared by more than 150 organizations and completed by nearly 400 individuals across Quebec.

What’s next?

Then, with the support of the RTSA through the Partners for Change program, a joint committee composed of autistic and non-autistic people was created. This committee developed a video project that gives voice to autistic adults who wish to share their needs or aspirations in terms of housing.

By combining these testimonies with research data, we hope that the reality, needs and aspirations of autistic adults in Quebec will be widely publicized. The goal is to raise awareness not only among the general public but also among all those involved in the field of housing and accommodation.

More information on this subject will be given during the event!

Practical information

The event will be held at District 3 at Concordia University, located at 1250 Guy Street, Suite 600 Montreal, Quebec H3H 2L3

Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided upon arrival.

The event will begin with a welcome, followed by a presentation of the results of the survey and video project. La Maison de l’autisme will then announce the next steps in its housing project.

Then, an open mic period (not accessible virtually) will offer the autistic people present the opportunity to express themselves around the issue of housing, by sharing their situation, their aspirations or their dreams.

The event will conclude, for those who wish, with an informal networking moment.
