Roadmap for Incentivizing the Realization of Adaptative Reuse Projects in Ottawa

The initiative to incentivize the realization of adaptive reuse projects in Ottawa, led by Carleton University, outlines a comprehensive strategy to promote the sustainable transformation of existing structures. The initiative emphasizes the importance of strategic partnerships among stakeholders, including design teams, policymakers, and community organizations, to foster a cultural shift towards recognizing adaptive reuse’s socio-cultural, economic, and environmental benefits. The roadmap includes developing tools and resources to facilitate adaptive reuse, such as economic incentives, regulatory reforms, and technical support. The initiative also highlights the need for feasibility studies to determine appropriate interventions and legislative changes at various governmental levels to remove barriers to reuse. The roadmap emphasizes the importance of post-occupancy monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of adaptive reuse interventions, promote maintenance, and ensure long-term quality.
